Carl started playing guitar (late 1989), along with bass, keyboards and programming a drum machine in the early 1990's. He got with some friends (Todd West who was primarily the vocalist, and Charles Boettger who primarily played keyboards) in the Omaha metro area and formed the first known local industrial band, Haunted Reason, in the Omaha metropolitan area.

HR started recording right away, using a bass amp and hooking it up to a home stereo system (have to be careful doing it that way!!). Soon, he bought a home studio recording system, and a little later a DAT recorder making it possible to create a digital master (digital was virtually unheard of at that time). Soon, HR released 3 cassettes: Still Born, Dead Resurrect, and Uncontrolled Experiment. (They had not played a show when they released Still Born, which helped lead to the name!)

HR played many shows, but people in the area didn't seem ready for the theatrical live show, the harsh and noise-orientated style, or the use of keyboards in music that was being produced, making shows few and often far between. HR broke up a few times over the years, and changed some of its members. The last incarnation, bass player David Vosburgh joined (currently playing keyboards for Vizagoth), while Charles and Carl took over the roles of vocals while continuing to play multiple instruments in the studio and live. HR released a CD (Anti-Matter) in 2002.

Carl also played bass in a couple of death metal bands in the mid 1990's (Xenomorph, and Sandskin). Though, for the most part, Carl did enjoy playing the shows and working with the other great musicians, the style of music just wasn't for him.

In 2007, a few years after the last Haunted Reason disbandment, Carl started the solo project, Awful Logic. He recorded the first 2 albums (Blackhole and Blood Soaked) along with the first 2 EP's (Death Box and Take in the Evil) that first year, and released them just a few months apart.

In 2009 Carl released Damned, along with the Damned Demos EP, Blood Soaked Skin EP, and Some Singles.

Carl, started doing some recording on the 4th album, Dark Energy at the end of 2012. He has once again changed the sound and anticipates this album to be as exciting as the prior ones - of course, he added "It'll be the best yet!" which is what all the musicians say...
